Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Q: "What level of physical fitness does Brazilian Jiu Jitsu require?"

Any. We have guys and gals who are in incredible shape - and others who aren't. Everyone has a great experience, and gets a killer workout, too.

Q: "Will a medical condition / past injury interfere with participating in BJJ?"

Probably not. But we advise speaking with your doctor first. He / she will know better than anyone - and may be able to tell us what exercises you can & can't do.

Q: "Is there a high risk for injury?"

Definitely not! After years of practice and expertise with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, we've identified the key factors that lead to injury - and designed our program to counter each of these factors. The result: injuries do happen (as they do with any intense sport), but they're extremely rare.

Q: "Are there women in the classes?"

Yes! While the majority of our BJJ students are men, there are women who come and have an awesome experience, too.

Q: "What's the class-environment like here?"

In a nutshell: supportive, fun & focused. BJJ tends to have a "family-like" vibe. After all, you're constantly challenging yourself, and striving to be your best in every class. This creates a real sense of camaraderie & team - which is part of the awesome BJJ experience.

Q: "I have no interest in competing. Can I still take these Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes?"

Absolutely! There are just as many competitive BJJ-ers here as there are hobbyists.

Q: "Can these classes help me get ready for my upcoming matches?"

Absolutely. We'll work with you to get your body, mind & technique ready for anything. Your fitness will skyrocket. Your technique will be honed & sharp. And your mind will be positive, focused & ready.

Adult Martial Arts

Q: “Can martial arts cause injury?”

Because we place such a huge focus on safety and injury prevention, we're proud to say that injuries are very few and far between with our program. In fact, because martial arts gets you in great shape, and makes you strong and flexible, people often see LESS injuries in their lives.

Q: “What level of fitness is required for martial arts?”

You'll get in shape as you go. You don't have to be in great shape to start.

The great thing about martial arts is you can be at any fitness level and do great. That's because there's no rush or pressure to do anything quickly. You can learn at your own pace.

If you have a knack for it, you can speed through techniques. If it's a bit harder for you, take your time. All we care about is that you're having fun, learning and progressing, and staying safe.

Q: “Is there violence involved in martial arts?”

People often mistake self-defense for violence. We teach self-defense here.

Self-defense means doing everything in your power to AVOID violence! It means being diplomatic and peaceful. In fact, people who have had problems with violence in the past often become peaceful and balanced through martial arts.

Kickboxing

Q: "Will my class be in a group or 1-on-1?"

Most likely you'll be in a group class. However we gladly offer private classes for those that are interested. Feel free to ask any of our instructors for more info on private classes!

Q: "How many people are in a group class?"

At peak times, there's between 15-30. Some times have more, some less. But we make sure to have enough instructors to match the class size. That way you always get the attention you need.

Q: “Are there other beginners in the classes?”

Yes, classes are full of people of all experience levels - including total beginners.

Q: “Do you offer any kind of help / guidance with nutrition and eating?”

We've researched deeply into nutrition to give all of our members powerful guidance - without making them start impossible-to-stick-to diets or anything of the sort.

Q: “Is this similar to 'cardio kickboxing'?”

No, our classes are extremely interactive, and involve real-life boxing equipment like punching bags & gloves. This is nothing like cardio kickboxing!

Kids Martial Arts

Q: “Does Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do make kids violent?”

No way! Martial arts is about peace, harmony and diplomacy. It teaches children how to AVOID fights - not pick them.

Q: “Do kids get injured in Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do?”

Sometimes. But the truth is, injuries are very, very rare here. We have a lot of measures in place to keep your child perfectly safe. In fact, safety is our #1 concern.

Q: “My child isn't athletic. Can they still participate in Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do if they're not athletic?”

Absolutely. Martial Arts teaches kids to be coordinated, flexible and strong. Kids who don't naturally have these qualities develop them. Kids who do have these qualities grow them even more.

Q: “Are these Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do classes fun?”

Yes! After all, these are children we're dealing with here. And kids love their fun. We do a variety of games and activities that have kids howling with laughter, and constantly smiling. We work hard here - but we play just as hard.

Q: “Is Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do a skill / talent that will give my child pride and confidence?”

Yes! A lot of kids perform their martial arts moves in talent shows and other things. Their friends are always blown away. The positive feedback children receive helps build their self-esteem and confidence. Kids feel good knowing they can do something that's "cool and special."

Q: “What's a good age for a child to start Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do?”

Honestly, practically every age is a good age to start! We have children as young as 3 years old, as well as teenagers. We also have specific programs for adults. So no matter where you or your child is on the age spectrum - we've got you covered.

Q: “Is Martial Arts, Karate, Tae Kwon Do for boys AND girls? Or just boys?”

Martial arts are for boys and girls. Our classes have a good mix of both, too. So if you're worried about your girl being alone in a group of boys, wipe that worry from your mind!
